Called to Lead, Built to Serve

The Bridge #45

Hey SCC Family !

Good Afternoon! Welcome to the 45th edition of The Bridge Weekly—can you believe we’ve made it this far together? It feels like we’re just getting started!

This past Sunday was a special one! Joel shared his vision for community and discipleship at SCC, emphasizing the importance of connecting people directly with Jesus. He believes discipleship is about helping individuals grasp Christ for themselves, viewing it as an adventure filled with purpose and joy. Joel is excited to foster a vibrant, relational environment centered on Jesus, where we can all grow in our relationship with Him.

We also welcomed Deb Howatt as our new Missions Leadership Team Coordinator! Deb carries a deep love and passion for Jesus—she is a true worshiper. From that place of worship, she has spent many years serving “the least of these” in our local community, nationally and internationally. It’s who she is and what she carries. We believe this is the season for her to step into this leadership role and see what the Lord will do in and through her as she leads and guides the mission team. Please join us in congratulating Deb—we’re so excited for her to step into this role!

We also had the joy of commissioning the Gulu Mission team, who are now on their way to Gulu, Uganda, to work with World Embrace. Please keep them in your prayers as they serve and share God’s love.

If you missed Sunday’s message or want to listen again, you can find it HERE

Note: Tracy is in Gulu with the mission team, so there will be no Listening & Responding episodes for the next couple of weeks. We look forward to hearing from her when she returns!

This Sunday is Orphan Sunday, a special day where we pause to reflect on God’s heart for the vulnerable and consider how we, as a church, can play a role in bringing hope to orphans and those in need around the world.

We’re also excited to welcome Andrew Bryce as our guest speaker. He’ll share a message titled “Why Do You Go to Church,” based on 1 Corinthians 12:12-20. Andrew will explore the importance of community and how each of us plays a vital role in the body of Christ.

After the service, join us for Connect Café! It’s a great chance to grab a coffee, meet new people, and catch up with friends. We look forward to seeing you there!

The Gulu Mission Team arrived safely in Uganda last night, and after a good rest, they’ll be heading north today. Great news—all the luggage made it, too! Keep them in your prayers as they continue their journey. 🙏✨

God is good all the time. As you prepare your hearts to give from your financial resources, remember that when you give to the work of your home church, you’re providing opportunities for God’s kingdom among us, through us, and beyond us into the wider world. We are all part of something bigger. Consider with the Lord what He is asking of you. Thank you for being a generous people, just as our Father in Heaven is generous with us.

It’s time to start talking about Christmas Blessing. This year, in partnership with Loaves and Fishes, we will support families in need over Christmas with gifts and food. Please consider what you will give beyond your regular giving to SCC for this special blessing.  Christmas Blessing will be an option in Nucleus Giving, and we ask that you note this when using eTransfer as well.

Did you notice the Christmas tree in the great room last Sunday? That’s a sure sign that our Operation Christmas Child campaign is here! Feel free to grab a shoebox from under the tree and start thinking about what to include—whether it’s school supplies, toys, or hygiene items. Each gift shares Jesus’ love and brings hope to children in need around the world. Let’s come together and make a meaningful impact as we reflect His love. The final drop-off date is November 21-23.

Would you like to make a difference for a child in PEI this Christmas? Open Door Outreach, in partnership with Prison Fellowship Canada, runs the Angel Tree Christmas program for children of incarcerated parents. Here’s how it works:

  1. Inmates register their children for Christmas gifts.

  2. You or your group signs up to purchase and deliver gifts.

  3. Indicate how far you’re willing to travel and how many children you’d like to support at $40 per child.

  4. Prison Fellowship sends you the details.

Sign up to bring joy to a child this Christmas! Register here. Thank you for caring!

Leadership in God’s Kingdom isn’t about status; it’s about a heart willing to serve. Jesus modeled this—leading by walking with people, meeting their needs, and inviting them into a life of love and purpose. Real leadership begins in humility, putting others first and listening well. Imagine if our communities reflected this spirit—each act of service becoming a small but powerful step in building God’s Kingdom. Through serving, we reflect Jesus’ heart and make His love real in everyday moments.

This week, we want to shine a spotlight on someone who keeps everything running smoothly behind the scenes—Aaron! He’s one of the key people who makes sure our Sunday services go off without a hitch, from setting up cameras to managing the live stream. Aaron has a knack for staying on top of all things AV, and this past week, he even took time to organize equipment and help out in the office. His steady presence and willingness to lend a hand whenever needed make such a difference in our church family.

Inspired by Aaron’s dedication? If you’d like to join our team and help out in ways that fit your strengths, we’d love to have you onboard!

As we head into this weekend, let’s remember that our greatest calling is to lead others directly to Jesus. Our role is to take someone’s hand and help them connect with Christ, knowing that once they grasp hold of Him, He will guide their journey. It’s not about making disciples of ourselves, but about pointing others to Him who transforms lives. Just as people in the Gospels brought their friends and family to Jesus because they needed Him, we too are invited to reach out and share His love. God loves each one of us and desires to reconnect every heart back to the Father. There’s incredible joy and fullness when we overflow with His love and share it with others. Let’s embrace this opportunity to be part of His work, leading others to the life and hope found in Him

Thanks for spending time with us in this week’s edition of The Bridge Weekly! We love keeping this connection going and sharing updates with you each week. (And if you’re reading this part… well, consider yourself one of the real MVPs!). Can’t wait to catch up with you again next week. Until then, take care and have a great weekend!

P.S. Take a few minutes to read 1 Corinthians 12:12-20 before Sunday. It’s a powerful passage about how we each play a unique and vital role in the body of Christ—a great foundation for Andrew’s message!
