God invites us to rest

The Bridge #44

Hey SCC Family !

Welcome to week 44 of The Bridge Weekly—can you believe it? Time’s flying by, and speaking of time, don’t forget that Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend! Remember to set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night. We’re so glad to be on this journey with you. Let’s dive into what’s been happening!

In last Sunday’s message, Colby continued our series on the Lord’s Prayer, focusing on “Give us today our daily bread” (Matthew 6:11). He reminded us that seeking God daily isn’t just about meeting our needs—it’s about experiencing His presence in our everyday lives. Starting with Psalm 84, which speaks of longing for God, Colby connected it to Jesus’ teaching in Matthew 6.

He shared some powerful stories, like the woman who anointed Jesus’ feet in Luke 7 and the disciples on the road to Emmaus in Luke 24. These stories show us how approaching Jesus with humility and a genuine desire to be near Him can transform our lives. The main takeaway? While God is everywhere, He especially wants to be with us personally. He’s inviting us to seek Him every day—not just for answers or provisions, but for a relationship that brings fullness and meaning.

Listening & Responding Episode

This week, Colby joined Tracy in the latest Listening & Responding episode. They discussed the importance of making time to encounter God in our daily lives. Colby emphasized that our greatest calling as believers is to love the Lord—that should come before everything else we do. He shared a thought-provoking quote: “The God who is everywhere wants to be somewhere, and that somewhere is with you and me.”

Tracy reflected on how being still before God is essential to hearing His voice and aligning with His will. She shared about the elders’ retreat, where “Be still and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10) was a central theme. They both encouraged us to spend time in Scripture, even if it’s just a few verses a day, and to take moments to sit quietly with God—not just to ask for things, but to be present with Him.

We have a special Sunday ahead! We’ll be commissioning the Gulu Mission Team as they prepare to serve in Uganda from November 5-18. The team will focus on community outreach, including work in the Women’s & Children’s Prison, the hospital, and with local university students. Please keep them in your prayers as they get ready and during their time there.

Also, we’re thrilled to welcome Joel Wydysh on his first Sunday as our Pastor of Community and Connection. We’ll be officially installing him during the service. Join us in giving him a warm welcome!

After the service, stick around for Connect Café—grab a coffee and catch up with friends old and new. See you there!

God is good all the time. As you prepare your hearts to give from your financial resources, remember that when you give to the work of your home church, you’re providing opportunities for God’s kingdom among us, through us, and beyond us into the wider world. We are all part of something bigger. Consider with the Lord what He is asking of you. Thank you for being a generous people, just as our Father in Heaven is generous with us.

It’s time to start talking about Christmas Blessing. This year, in partnership with Loaves and Fishes, we will support families in need over Christmas with gifts and food. Please consider what you will give beyond your regular giving to SCC for this special blessing.  Christmas Blessing will be an option in Nucleus Giving, and we ask that you note this when using eTransfer as well.

Did you notice the Christmas tree in the great room last Sunday? That’s a sure sign that our Operation Christmas Child campaign is here! Feel free to grab a shoebox from under the tree and start thinking about what to include—whether it’s school supplies, toys, or hygiene items. Each gift shares Jesus’ love and brings hope to children in need around the world. Let’s come together and make a meaningful impact as we reflect His love. The final drop-off date is November 21-23.

It’s a wonderful opportunity to embrace the spirit of Christmas together. Mark your calendars—we hope to see you there!

There’s a kind of hunger that goes beyond what food can satisfy—a deep longing within us for something more. Just like the Israelites received manna each day in the wilderness, we’re offered daily sustenance through God’s presence. Imagine waking up and finding exactly what your soul needs waiting for you. His presence becomes our “daily bread,” nourishing us from the inside out. Embracing this gift can transform the way we face each day. How might inviting His presence bring peace and fulfillment into your everyday life?

This week, we want to shine a spotlight on someone who brings so much warmth and joy to our church family—Sherla MacNeil! Sherla has been a real blessing lately, especially with helping clean up after communion—making sure everything is taken care of so the rest of us can focus on connecting. You might also spot her cuddling babies during the service, giving busy moms a much-needed break. Her gentle nature and love for the little ones bring such a comforting presence to our community. And let’s not forget her baking skills! Sherla is always happy to whip up cookies for our events, adding a sweet treat that everyone enjoys. Plus, she’s a talented photographer who captures beautiful moments among us. We’re so grateful for Sherla and all the ways she contributes. Next time you see her, feel free to say hello and share a smile!

Feeling inspired? If you’d like to get involved and make a difference like Sherla, we’d love to have you join the team. There’s always room for more helping hands!

As we wrap up this week, take a few moments to sit quietly and simply be with Jesus. It’s not about asking what He can do for you but about being present with Him, listening for what He might want to share. Think of each breath as a form of worship—breathing Him in and giving thanks as you breathe out. God longs to encounter us more deeply than we often reach out to Him, and in those quiet moments, He reveals so much more. This weekend, try setting aside just 10 minutes to pause, breathe, and connect with Him. Let’s embrace this time to deepen our relationship, trust His guidance, and experience the peace that comes from being truly present with our Lord. Blessings as you seek His presence!

Thanks for hanging out with us in this week’s edition of The Bridge Weekly! It’s always a joy to stay connected, and we can’t wait to catch up with you again next week. Until then, take care and have a great weekend!

P.S. As we look forward to this special Sunday, let’s keep the Gulu Mission Team and Pastor Joel in our prayers. Let’s come together to support them and celebrate how God is moving in our community!
