Jesus Isn’t a Side Dish

Enough said.

Hey there SCC Family !

Welcome to The Bridge Weekly Vol 2. Issue 43!
Some things are better mixed—trail mix, playlists, iced coffee. But not your faith. On Sunday, Tracy invited us back to the simplicity and power of Jesus. Colossians 2 reminds us that when we start adding in cultural pressure, self-help systems, or personal preferences, we end up watering down the very thing we need most. Jesus doesn’t need seasoning—He’s already the fullness of God. And He’s still enough to hold it all together.

Need a midweek realignment?
The blog takes Sunday’s message and filters it into something short, thoughtful, and scroll-friendly. It’s a good pause for wherever your week has taken you. Read it in line, in bed, or in between errands—wherever you need the reminder: Jesus alone is enough.

Between the Shores is back.
Joel and Tracy explore mixture, simplicity, and what it means to follow Jesus without the extras. This episode pairs with Sunday’s message—great for reflecting while folding laundry, walking the dog, or sipping something warm before jumping into the next thing.

Missed Sunday’s Message?
We’ve got you. Our Sunday messages are available as a podcast—great for your next walk, commute, or dishwashing session. Just search Summerside Community Church on Apple Podcasts or Spotify. You can also watch the full message anytime on our sermon hub.

This Sunday, Joel will be teaching on what it means to become more like Jesus—living in close relationship with Him and allowing His presence to shape every part of our lives. Right after the service, stay in the Great Room for our Connect Group Fair. You’ll have a chance to meet leaders, ask questions, and explore ways to grow in community. Jesus calls us to walk together, and Connect Groups are a great place to start.

With Colby heading to Africa in February, we’re looking to fill two important part-time roles that help carry the heart and mission of SCC.

The Custodian role is all about creating clean, welcoming spaces—for Sundays, events, and everyday moments. It’s flexible, hands-on, and could even work great for a couple.

The Youth Pastor position is for someone who loves teens and wants to help them grow in faith, friendship, and identity in Jesus. You’ll lead Thursday nights, mentor students, support volunteers, and walk alongside the next generation.

Volunteer Appreciation Party!

If you volunteer at SCC—we want to celebrate YOU! From smiling at the door to running tech, prepping meals, teaching kids, or praying behind the scenes, you make this church what it is. Join us Saturday, November 15 at 6 PM in the Café for an evening of good food, fun surprises, and heartfelt thanks. You bring so much—this night’s for you.

…and if you’re still feeling festive…
Come back the following Wednesday, November 19 from 1–4 PM to help deck the halls for Christmas!  There’ll be trees to trim, lights to hang, and plenty of cheer to go around. Jump in where you can—we’ll have the Christmas music ready.

Every shoebox is a simple gift with eternal impact. Through toys, school supplies, and small treasures, we get to share the love of Jesus with children around the world. If you’re packing a box this year, you can drop it off at Centre 150 during these times:

📦 November 20 – 11 AM to 4 PM
📦 November 21 – 4 PM to 8 PM
📦 November 22 – 9 AM to 3 PM

Let’s help spread joy—and the Gospel—one box at a time.

Rest is an invitation to be still with God. In the quiet, we begin to notice His nearness. We’re not called to keep up—we’re called to stay close. As your week moves forward, set aside a few moments to pause, breathe, and let your heart settle in Him.

Mel Bernard brings steady joy and a servant’s heart to our Connect Café team. He’s quick to help, easy to chat with, and always ready to make sure things run smoothly. We’re thankful for the way he shows up, week after week, and helps make SCC feel like family.

Looking to get more involved? Joining a team is a great way to build community, discover your strengths, and help others experience Jesus along the way. From making coffee to running slides, greeting at the door to helping with kids—there’s a place for you. Let’s find it together.

There’s always something taking shape at SCC—and we’d love for you to be part of it. From upcoming events to ways to serve and grow, our website is the best place to explore what’s happening. Take a look and find your next step.

Walk This Out
What if the real invitation this week is to let go of the extra? Not just the noise, but the pressure to mix in opinions, systems, or plans that pull your heart in a dozen directions. Jesus carries all wisdom, all fullness, and all peace. Walk with Him—no additives needed.

Thanks for being part of what God is building here. We love walking this out with you—and we’ll see you Sunday.

P.S. Simple doesn’t mean small. When Jesus is our center, everything shifts—our thoughts, our pace, our purpose. Let that simplicity lead you this week.
