Keep us forgiven with you

The Bridge #47

Hey SCC Family !

Welcome to the 47th edition of The Bridge Weekly. As November rolls along, there’s so much happening, and we can’t wait to share it with you!

This past Sunday was really special. Joel and Catherine teamed up to talk about the connection between forgiveness and our “daily bread” from the Lord’s Prayer. Joel shared how forgiveness is just as essential for our spiritual health as bread is for our bodies. He reminded us that forgiveness opens the door to experiencing Jesus’ presence and frees us from the weight of bitterness.

Catherine opened up about her own journey—a powerful story of healing from a tough childhood. She shared how she moved from anger to compassion and even love for her father. Through her experience, she walked us through the steps of forgiveness: being willing, seeking understanding, and finding compassion. Her story showed us how God’s love can heal our hearts and bring us closer to Him.

Their message was a heartfelt reminder to make forgiveness a part of our everyday lives. By doing so, we invite God’s presence to dwell within us, bringing freedom and restoration. Joel and Catherine encouraged us to partner with God, embracing forgiveness to grow closer to Him and find His peace.

If you missed it or want to watch it again, you can check out the sermon here

And guess what? Tracy is back! We’re super excited for her Listening & Responding episodes to start up again next week. If you’d like to catch up on any of her previous episodes, you can find them here: Listening & Responding Playlist

We’re so happy to share that our team from Gulu, Uganda, arrived home early Tuesday morning! They’ve witnessed God’s redemption, faithfulness, and love shining through the most beautiful people in the most unexpected places. The team poured out the love of Jesus and provided much-needed supplies in prisons, work camps, hospitals, and even connected with local university students. They’ve been just as impacted by the experience as those they’ve ministered to.

This Sunday, they’ll be leading the service and are excited to share stories about their journey and the amazing work of World Embrace in one of the world’s poorest countries. It’s going to be an inspiring time, and we can’t wait for you to hear all about it!

After the service, make sure to stop by Connect Café to catch up with the team. It’s a great opportunity to chat with them, ask questions, and hear more about how God moved during their trip—all over a good cup of coffee. See you there!

A Big Thank You to everyone who came out to help with our Christmas Decorating Party last night! Thanks to the amazing efforts of Gabriela, Roberto, Gabriel, and Joaquin Villalobos, Ceilidh Barnett, Jocelyn Holden, Dorothy Fry, Crystal Belanger, Freddy & Caroline Martin, Emily Martin, Isaac Gillis, Adelyn Perry, and Debbie and Gerald Bryanton, our building is beautifully ready for the Christmas season. Your dedication and teamwork brought our vision to life, creating a warm and festive atmosphere for our church family. We truly couldn’t have done it without each of you. Let’s celebrate the wonderful space we’ve created together and look forward to a joyful Christmas!

Volunteer Christmas Party- We couldn’t do what we do without you! Our volunteers are the heart and soul of our church community, and we want to show our appreciation for all the time, energy and love you’ve poured into making everything run smoothly. To say “thank you,” we’re hosting a special Christmas Party just for you on December 7th at 6:00 PM. It’s going to be a festive evening filled with good food, laughter, and holiday cheer. Please let us know if you can make it by replying to this email to RSVP. We can’t wait to celebrate with you!

It’s time to start talking about Christmas Blessing. This year, in partnership with Loaves and Fishes, we will support families in need over Christmas with gifts and food. Please consider what you will give beyond your regular giving to SCC for this special blessing.  Christmas Blessing will be an option in Nucleus Giving, and we ask that you note this when using eTransfer as well.

Good news—it’s not too late to participate in Operation Christmas Child! Our final collection days are happening now, and we’d love for you to be a part of it. Here are the drop-off times:

November 21: 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM

November 22: 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM

November 23: 9:00 AM – 3:00 PM

You can still pick up a shoebox under the Christmas tree in the great room. Fill it with school supplies, toys, or hygiene items—each gift shares Jesus’ love and brings hope to children in need around the world. Let’s come together to make a meaningful impact as we reflect His love. Thank you for being part of this special outreach!

Would you like to make a difference for a child in PEI this Christmas? Open Door Outreach, in partnership with Prison Fellowship Canada, runs the Angel Tree Christmas program for children of incarcerated parents. Here’s how it works:

  1. Inmates register their children for Christmas gifts.

  2. You or your group signs up to purchase and deliver gifts.

  3. Indicate how far you’re willing to travel and how many children you’d like to support at $40 per child.

  4. Prison Fellowship sends you the details.

Sign up to bring joy to a child this Christmas! Register here. Thank you for caring!

Performers Wanted for an Inter-Church Musical Christmas Nativity Play! All school-aged youth are invited to participate in this year’s Christmas Nativity Play, sponsored by the Summerside and Area Christian Council. While auditions for lead roles (Mary, Joseph, Gabriel) have already taken place, we’re still looking for angels, shepherds, and more. It’s not too late to be part of this wonderful production—we’re accepting interested youth until Sunday, November 24th.

Rehearsals are underway, and we’d love to have you join us. The full dress rehearsal on December 15th will be held at St. Paul’s Church, where having an audience will help the performers prepare for the final performance on December 21st at the Harbourfront Theatre.

Have you ever noticed how holding onto unforgiveness feels like carrying a heavy backpack you can’t set down? Sometimes, we think we’re protecting ourselves by not letting go, but what if forgiveness is actually the key to our own freedom? When we pray, “Forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us.” it’s like an invitation to step into a lighter, more peaceful way of living. Imagine what might happen if we not only accepted forgiveness for ourselves but also extended it to others. Could it open doors to healing we didn’t even know we needed? Let’s wonder together about how embracing forgiveness might transform our hearts and relationships in ways we’ve longed for but haven’t yet experienced.

If you’re curious to explore this further, feel free to read our latest blog post here.

This week, we want to highlight Jocelyn, who wears many hats in our church! You’ll often find her volunteering in the admin office on Wednesday and Thursday mornings, keeping everything organized. Jocelyn schedules most of our volunteers, sets up for communion, and steps in whenever something needs to be done. She’s even taken on building rental paperwork and communications recently. With her heart for people and our volunteers, Jocelyn’s dedication keeps things running smoothly and with care. We’re so grateful for all that she does!

Feeling inspired? If you’d like to get involved and make a difference like Jocelyn, we’d love to have you join the team. There’s always room for more helping hands!

As we head into this weekend, let’s reflect on the profound truth that unforgiveness is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. Holding onto bitterness only hurts us. As Catherine shared on Sunday, “Forgiveness does not exonerate the perpetrator; forgiveness liberates the victim. It is a gift you give yourself.” Her journey reminds us that the first step toward healing is a willingness to forgive to release the poison within us. Let’s be courageous in seeking understanding and compassion, allowing God’s love to transform our hearts. Together, let’s choose forgiveness daily, embracing the freedom and peace it brings as we draw closer to Him.

P.S. As we embrace the power of forgiveness this week, let’s also open our hearts to the incredible stories our mission team will share on Sunday. Their experiences in Gulu, Uganda, are a testament to how God’s love and grace can transform lives—both theirs and ours. See you there!
