Learning God's Story

The Bridge #22

Hey there, SCC Family!

Welcome to the 22nd edition of The Bridge Weekly! It's June already, can you believe it? As the weather gets warmer and the days grow longer, let's pause to appreciate the wonderful journey we're on. Pastors Tracy, Colby, and Heather, along with other members of our church family, have headed to the Jesus Image conference in California. Let's keep them in our prayers, trusting they'll have a safe journey and encounter Jesus in new ways.

On Sunday, Tracy shared a powerful message about continuously exploring God's nature with childlike curiosity. She drew parallels between our spiritual journeys and storytelling, emphasizing how our roles and perspectives can transform us. By reflecting on Mark 8:31-33 and Romans 8:16-18, she highlighted the transformative power of enduring trials and our identity as God's children. You can watch the full sermon here.

Two key threads emerged from her message: we're in the middle of our story, and we always have a choice. Inspired by C.S. Lewis, Tracy reminded us of the importance of our daily decisions and where we focus our energy. Galatians 6:9-10 encourages us to keep sowing seeds into God’s kingdom, as they will bear fruit in due time.

The concept of iniquity from the Old Testament teaches us that “Whatever your eye hooks into will increase in your life.” Song of Solomon 2:15 urges us to catch the little foxes that hinder our relationship with God. This year, the message is clear: “Shore up those vulnerable places” and focus on the things of God, not the flesh. Check out Tracy’s latest episode here: Watch Tracy’s Episode. What are you focusing on this week? How can you remove the little foxes in your life?

This Sunday, guest speaker Bruce Belair, who led youth ministry for 26 years and inspired many to leadership, both in churches and the marketplace, will join us. Bruce enjoys actively serving in various community roles and runs a construction business. After the service, make sure to stay and enjoy some great company at our Connect Cafe.

It’s that time again! Every quarter, we allocate 10% of our giving for a month to a mission-based organization. This month, our focus is on Open Door Outreach. They work with women in our Provincial Correctional Centre and community, addressing addiction and drug-related crimes. Their intervention during incarceration and recovery helps break the cycle of crime for individuals and their families, creating change directly at the source. You can be a part of changing the cycle.

Thinking about how we learn from God’s ongoing story, isn't it fascinating how every discovery shapes us? Imagine each day as a chapter where you actively participate in God’s narrative. What new roles might you find yourself in? How could viewing yourself as both a learner and a contributor change your interactions with the world and others? Be encouraged to jump into each day with curiosity, excited to see what unfolds and how it influences us in God’s grand story. What small steps could you take this week to align your story more closely with God's grand narrative?

Have you met Ceilidh Barnett? She's a vital part of our Connect Cafe coffee team and also helps prepare meals for our Alpha group on Monday nights. Ceilidh adds her special touch. Her efforts foster a cozy atmosphere, transforming our regular gatherings into welcoming spaces where friendships flourish. What impact have you noticed from the welcoming spaces Ceilidh helps create?

As we close out this week, are you aware that even scholars with years of experience, like N.T. Wright, continue to discover new aspects of God's nature through scripture? This ongoing revelation reminds us that we never fully master the depths of God's story. Continual learning invites us to deepen our understanding and adapt our roles within our own life stories. Isn’t it thrilling to think about what fresh understandings await us as we dig deeper into scripture?

Thanks for spending a part of your day with us through this edition of The Bridge Weekly. We appreciate you joining our journey and look forward to connecting again next week!

P.S. Remember, we're in the middle of our own stories, each day a fresh page. How does this perspective shift your view of the week ahead? What chapter might you begin writing today?
