New Year, Same Jesus. Right Here.
How listening shapes faith in everyday life.

Hey there SCC Family !
Welcome to the new year… and The Bridge Weekly Vol 3. Issue 1!
Sunday invited us to pay attention to something we often rush past. Jesus is speaking, often in ways that feel personal, simple, and close to everyday life. As stories were shared, we were reminded that listening shapes how we live, pray, and respond.
Rather than searching for dramatic moments, we were encouraged to notice how Jesus meets us in real situations. Honest questions, ordinary circumstances, and small nudges become places where clarity, healing, and trust begin to grow. Faith takes shape as we learn to stay open and ask Jesus about our story.
A small nudge to slow down and pay attention. The blog offers a short, thoughtful read that echoes Sunday’s invitation to listen for Jesus in everyday life. It is a simple pause to help realign your heart and notice what God may already be doing. | Sometimes listening happens best on the move. Between the Shores is taking a short break, with past episodes still available for listening anytime. New conversations return January 12, offering space to reflect, listen, and stay connected along the way. |

Pre-Service Prayer
From 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. before the service, our prayer team is available in the Great Room. If you would like prayer, look for the Prayer Ministry sign. It is a simple way to settle your heart and welcome God’s presence.
This Sunday, Colby will be sharing from Mark 12:30–31, where Jesus names love as the center of life with God. Loving God with our whole being and loving others as ourselves shapes how we live, relate, and respond each day. It is a simple invitation with deep implications for faith that is lived out in real and practical ways.
Colby’s Next Step | How We Can Help
As Colby prepares for his time with World Embrace, Kathy Mainse shared a few practical needs for their base and the Lookout Café. The café serves locals, expats, and missionaries and helps support day to day operations so donations can go directly toward ministry projects. If you already have any of the listed items at home or happen to spot them while out, bringing them in would be a real help. White linens are especially useful since they can be easily bleached. Items can be dropped off at SCC during office hours or contact Colby at [email protected].
Deadline to drop things off is January 11th

As Tracy shared on Sunday, December 21, the Youth Group Leadership Planning Meeting was an encouraging time. Engagement was strong, and the gathering reflected a clear sense of health, unity, and spiritual maturity among both youth and leaders.
As we continue to walk through this season of change with Elev8 Youth, we want to invite the church into intentional prayer.
This is a time of listening and paying attention—a time of trusting that God is already at work among our teens and those who serve them. While we will begin the search for a Youth Pastor, we also recognize that this in-between space matters. God is speaking in the middle of it, and we don’t want to miss what He is saying in our desire to arrive quickly at an outcome.
Please join us in praying for:
Our youth, that they would continue to encounter Jesus in worship, community, and everyday life.
Our Youth Leaders, both long-standing and newly stepping in, for strength, unity, and joy as they serve.
Wisdom and clarity as we begin the Youth Pastor search in January.
A spirit of discernment, that we would recognize what God is opening and what He is inviting us to wait on.
The right people to step into support roles, including communication and coordination, at the right time.
We are grateful for the faithfulness already present in this community and for the way God continues to shape and lead Elev8 Youth. Thank you for covering this season in prayer as we listen, discern, and walk forward together.

HERE + NOW is a night of worship and prayer happening January 11 at 6:00 p.m. at Elmsdale Nazarene. This evening brings people from different churches and backgrounds together to pause, pray, and seek God in the present moment. As a new year begins, it offers space to refocus, worship, and welcome God’s nearness in a simple and meaningful way.

Listening for God’s voice is something that grows with practice. This five week course offers a simple, grounded way to explore how God speaks through Scripture, prayer, community, and everyday life. Each session includes a different teacher, shared listening practices, and space to reflect together. You can sign up at the Hub on Sunday or register using the button below.

Money Matters is a relaxed, conversation focused evening designed for anyone wanting a clearer and more practical approach to finances. It takes place Wednesday, January 14 at 7:00 p.m. and includes short, down to earth talks followed by open Q and A. Topics will cover budgeting, debt, savings, and tithing in a supportive, low pressure setting. Darren will host the evening, with insight from Temba Ngwenya, Scott Nash, Ron Goddard, and Don DesRoches. You can sign up at the Hub or use the button below.

The beginning of a year carries plenty of momentum, plans, and expectations. Sabbath invites us to start differently. Rest creates space to listen, to notice God’s presence, and to remember that faith grows through trust, not striving. Sometimes the most faithful step forward is a pause that recenters our hearts in Jesus.

Deb Howatt is our Missions and Outreach Coordinator and serves on both the prayer ministry and flagging teams. She brings a steady presence and a genuine care for people, helping create space for others to feel supported and connected. We are grateful for the faithfulness and heart she brings to our church family.

Carry this with you…
Jesus often speaks in quiet, ordinary ways that are easy to miss when life feels full. As you move through workdays, conversations, and small moments, stay open. A pause, a prayer, a simple awareness may be enough to notice that He is already near and already speaking.
Thanks for being part of what God is building here. We love walking this out with you. See you Sunday.

P.S. One small practice for the week ahead. Ask Jesus about your day, even in the ordinary moments.
