Sometimes Faith Looks Like a Pastry

What happens when we seek God’s Kingdom first.

Hey there SCC Family !

Welcome to The Bridge Weekly Vol 3. Issue 10!
A pastry in the offering plate is not the usual way generosity begins, yet sometimes faith starts with exactly what we have. On Sunday, Andrew shared stories from decades of walking with Jesus. Again and again the same pattern appeared. Trust opened the door for God’s provision. Jesus’ words in Matthew 6 guided the whole conversation. Seek the Kingdom of God first and trust that He knows what we need.

Through seasons of scarcity, unexpected provision, and quiet surrender, we were reminded that our hearts are shaped by what we trust. As a church family, we continue learning this same rhythm together. Listen for God’s voice. Practice gratitude. Walk forward in generosity, trusting that Jesus is already at work among us.

The invitation from Sunday continues through this week’s blog and the latest Between the Shores conversation. Both offer space to reflect on the stories and Scripture that shaped the message and the simple call to seek God’s Kingdom first. As we trust Jesus in everyday moments, our faith grows in quiet and steady ways.

Pre-Service Prayer
Prayer is available before the service from 9:30 to 10:00 a.m. If you would like someone to pray with you, the prayer team will be near the Prayer Room in the Great Room. It is a quiet space to slow down, settle your heart, and open the morning to God together.

This Sunday we begin a new series in Hebrews with Tracy speaking from Hebrews 1:1–4 and 2:1–4. The book opens with a clear focus. God has spoken through His Son. Jesus reveals God’s heart, purpose, and invitation for our lives. Hebrews was written to people asking what faith looks like in uncertain times. The response is simple and steady. Look to Jesus and listen carefully to His voice as we walk with Him together..

A small hand reaching for a volunteer on Sunday morning creates space for a child to feel safe and for a parent to worship with peace.

Our nursery serves ages one and two, and we are looking for one more volunteer to join the team, serving one week on and two weeks off. If you feel a nudge to help care for our youngest ones, please connect with Freddy or email him at [email protected].

Tax Information:
If you were not able to pick up your tax receipt on Sunday, it has been mailed to you. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out and we will be glad to help.

Deep Cleaning Days Postponed!
There is something quietly meaningful about caring for the space where we worship, pray, and gather. A couple of hours together can make a real difference.

Our Deep Cleaning Days have been postponed to Thursday, March 26 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. and Saturday, March 28 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.. If these dates do not work for you, check the whiteboard in the lobby and choose a task to complete during office hours in the weeks ahead. You can sign up below or at the Hub on Sunday.

Parents Night Out is coming up on Monday, March 23 from 5:00–8:00 p.m. at 150 Industrial Crescent.

Children ages 5–12 will enjoy games, activities, and pizza while parents enjoy a few hours to recharge.

Our visiting Praying Pelican Missions team will be helping host the evening alongside our church family, bringing energy and care to a fun night for everyone.

Youth ages 13 and up are invited to Testify, a night set apart to worship Jesus together. The evening takes place March 26 at 7:00 p.m. here at SCC.

Our visiting Praying Pelican Missions team will lead the night, sharing what God is doing in their lives and creating space for students to respond to Him. Invite a friend and come expectant.

Many in our church are walking through Lent with a simple daily rhythm of prayer. The Lectio 365 Prayer App offers short reflections rooted in Scripture that help create space to slow down, listen for Jesus, and allow His Word to shape your life.

From the earliest days of the Church, Lent has been a season of preparation leading toward baptism. Baptism marks a visible step into life with Jesus and into the community of faith.

Our Baptism Sunday will take place here at SCC on March 29. If baptism has been on your mind, we would be honoured to walk through that conversation with you.

March is Missions Giving Month. Ten percent of all General Fund giving this month will go toward Open Door Outreach, a local ministry serving people in our community with practical support and hope.  A short video about their work is included below.

Our Niagara Mission Team will be holding their first fundraiser on March 21 with a family movie night. Doors open at 6:00 p.m. and the movie begins at 7:00 p.m.

Admission is $12, with pizza for $6, popcorn for $3, and pop for $2. You can also choose the $20 package that includes everything. Families of four or more can attend for $60.

Join us for a fun evening & support the team.

The Niagara Mission Team has now been selected, and we are excited to introduce them to you. Each person is preparing for the journey ahead, and your encouragement and support means a great deal as they step into this opportunity together.

The Watoto Children’s Choir has been sharing a message of hope around the world since 1984, and we are looking forward to welcoming them here on April 30 as they present songs from their new album, Better Days—There Is Hope. It will be a joyful evening of music and testimony that points us to the faithfulness of God.

We are also looking for up to 10 host homes to provide accommodation for the team on the night of the concert, typically hosting two choir children and one young adult chaperone. If you are able to open your home, please email the office to let us know. We would love to hear from you.

“Martha,” Jesus said, “You don’t have to wait until then.
I am the Resurrection, and I am Life Eternal.
Anyone who clings to me in faith, even though he dies, will live forever.
—John 11:25

When Jesus spoke with Martha in John 11, she was thinking about a future hope. Jesus gently drew her attention to something closer. “I am the Resurrection and I am Life Eternal.” Life with Him is not only a promise for someday. It is a present reality for those who trust Him. As you move through the week, take a few quiet moments to remember where your life is rooted. Hold onto Jesus in faith and let His life steady your heart.

Ron Goddard is a familiar and steady presence in the life of our church. You will often find him hosting during services, greeting at the door with a warm welcome, or investing in our Thrive Young Adults group. Ron brings consistency, kindness, and a genuine care for people across generations. We are thankful for the way he quietly shows up and serves week after week.

If you’re sensing a desire to step in a little more, serving on a team is a meaningful place to begin. It’s where friendships grow, gifts are discovered, and everyday moments become part of how others encounter Jesus. Preparing coffee, running slides, welcoming at the door, or caring for children all play a quiet role in shaping our life together. We would be glad to help you find a place that fits.

Every week, someone takes a simple next step. A conversation begins. A team is joined. A quiet yes starts to grow. Our website is one of the places those steps begin. You will find upcoming events, ways to serve, and space to explore what might be next for you.

Faith often begins with a small step. A quiet prayer. A simple act of generosity. A pastry in the offering plate. Jesus often meets us in moments just like these, where trust is placed in His hands one step at a time. As you move through the week, return to the words Jesus spoke in Matthew 6. Seek first the Kingdom of God. In that steady posture of trust, we begin to see again that with Jesus there is always more than enough.

Thank you for being part of this church family. It is a gift to walk this journey of faith together. We look forward to seeing you Sunday.

P.S. God often meets us in ordinary moments. Keep your eyes open this week for the quiet ways He is providing.
