Do I Stink?

The Bridge #33

Hey there SCC Family ! Welcome to the 33rd edition of The Bridge Weekly! Ever wonder why Thursdays get overlooked? Well, not around here—they’re our chance to connect with you and set the stage for the weekend.

This Sunday, Cheryl enlightened us with her insights on spiritual identity, drawing from 2 Corinthians 2:14-16. She compared our journey with Christ to a victory parade, where we’re celebrated not as captives but as triumphant participants, radiating Christ’s fragrance. This scent of victory is life to some and offensive to others, reflecting our diverse receptions in the world. Cheryl’s message reminds us that our value lies in who we are in Christ, not what we do. We are all integral to this parade of grace, continually included and cherished in His love. This truth encourages us to extend grace and mercy, even when faced with resistance. Check out the sermon here.

Carry this inspiring message through your week, embracing your identity in Christ and uplifting one another. And remember, Tracy is on vacation, so join us for the next Listening and Responding episode on August 26th!

This Sunday, Josh will be diving into Romans 8:31-37, exploring the powerful assurance that nothing can separate us from the love of Christ. It’s a message that promises to deepen our understanding of God’s unstoppable grace and love for us.

🍦 Stick around after the service for a special treat—an ice cream fundraiser benefiting the Gulu Mission Team. It’s a great opportunity to enjoy a sweet treat, make new friends, and support a worthy cause. Let’s share some laughs and ice cream as we celebrate this vibrant community together. See you there!

Our NYC Mission team heads out tomorrow morning for their big adventure at the New York School of Urban Ministry! Let’s keep them in our prayers as they dive into this incredible opportunity to serve and grow. We’re asking God to watch over them, keep them safe, and use their efforts to spread love and kindness in the city. This trip is a wonderful opportunity for them to serve and witness God’s love in action. Let’s support them with our prayers and look forward to hearing about the experiences and blessings they’ll bring back!

We Are Hiring! We’re looking for a Pastor of Community and Connection to help deepen our discipleship journey. This role focuses on fostering connections through courses and small groups, creating growth strategies for individuals and the church community, and providing avenues for spiritual care, equipping, and evangelism.

Check out our latest blog post, “Do I Stink?” It’s all about the intriguing idea that our lives can either be a sweet perfume or a harsh scent to those around us, based on 2 Corinthians 2:14-16. Have you ever thought about how your everyday actions impact those around you? This blog invites you to think about whether your actions help spread the fragrance of Christ or something less pleasant. It’s a great read to spark some self-reflection on how you’re influencing the world around you. Give it a look and see what tweaks you might consider to make sure you’re sharing the best scent possible! You can read more about it HERE.

Ready to meet this week’s Bridge Builder? Gerald Bryanton is usually the first to greet you with a smile and a helping hand at the door. Not only is he our welcome champion, but he’s always on hand for any maintenance needs. His cheerful greetings and willingness to lend a hand truly enhance the warmth of our community. Next time you bump into Gerald, take a moment to express your gratitude for his dedication!

As we wrap up this week, let’s consider how our daily actions impact those around us. For our faith family, it’s like a comforting scent of home, but for some, it might stir up a bit more—a challenge, perhaps. It’s not that we’re off track; it’s just that the presence of Christ in us can really shake things up. So, when people react strongly to our faith, it’s not a reflection on us but a testament to Christ working through us. Remember, we’re not aiming for perfection but authenticity. In God’s eyes, and to those who love Him, we carry the sweetest scent, no matter the reaction. Keep walking confidently in that truth!

Thanks for checking out this week’s edition of The Bridge Weekly. It’s always great to share this time with you, and we’re excited to catch up again next week. Until then, take care!

P.S. Don’t forget to read Romans 8:31-37 before Sunday’s service. These powerful verses remind us that nothing can separate us from God’s love. As Josh unfolds this passage, we’ll explore how it reassures us of God’s constant presence and overwhelming victory over all challenges. Let’s dive into these verses together, ready to be inspired and strengthened by the truth that in all things, we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.
