Strength in the Oil
The Bridge Weekly Vol 2 Issue 8

Hey SCC Family !
Welcome to The Bridge Weekly Vol. 2, Issue 8—eight weeks in, and we’re only warming up! Joel reminded us that trials refine and mature us, much like olives pressed for oil, urging us to let go of what holds us back and grow deeper in faith. Want more? This Sunday, Tracy continues our Crushed, Poured, Prepared: Faith That Doesn’t Quit series with “Burning Bright: Keeping Our Lamps Filled with Oil.” We’ll explore the parable of the wise and foolish virgins, looking at how consistent, personal connection with God keeps our spiritual lamps burning. Just as oil in the lamp must be replenished, our faith needs daily devotion—through Scripture, prayer, and obedience—to remain strong. Come ready to discover how personal responsibility and practical preparation fuel a faith that shines, even when life doesn’t go as planned.

Shelley King has just returned from her mission trip to the Grand Bahamas, where she witnessed God’s work in truly impactful ways. She shared about meeting the executive director and speech/autism therapist at the Children’s Home—the only orphanage on Grand Bahama and surrounding islands—and how their genuine love and integrity make each child feel truly valued. Thank you for your prayers and support for Shelley as she served. We look forward to hearing more of Shelley’s experiences and the ways God moved during her time away.

Loaves & Fishes could use our help! They’re looking for 125 ml and 250 ml mason jars (or small jam jars) and totes with lids that fully close. If you have these items, it would make a real difference. You can also drop off bottles at Don’s Bottle Exchange and mention Loaves & Fishes (LAF) to have the proceeds donated. |
They’re also seeking pantry essentials like regular beans (not black beans), soup, mac ’n cheese, cereal, granola bars, coffee (not instant), tea bags, applesauce, pudding cups, cheese, onions, carrots, celery, and hamburger meat. Your donations help Loaves & Fishes support families and individuals who rely on these vital resources. Let’s bless them together!

Rose Pierce is a friendly face you’ll spot on Sunday mornings, whether she’s greeting indoors or braving the cold outside. Her warmth and cheerful presence make everyone feel at home, brightening each person’s day the moment they walk through the door.

As we head into the weekend, let’s remember that growth doesn’t always happen in easy moments. Sometimes the pressing lingers, yet 1 Peter 1 reminds us it can refine our faith, making it real and sturdy. Maturity develops when we keep trusting God, even as life stretches thin. Like Jesus in Gethsemane, we can lean on the Father’s plan rather than run from the hard moments. If things feel heavy, hold steady—God isn’t wasting this season. He’s shaping a faith that endures, drawing us closer together and preparing us for what’s next.

Thanks for checking out this week’s Bridge Weekly! We’re glad you’re part of the conversation and hope you walk in God’s peace, love, and joy this week. We look forward to sharing more soon!

P.S. Matthew 25:1–13 reminds us that wise hearts stay ready for the groom. Let’s keep our lamps filled, so we don’t miss out when He arrives.
