This Message Surprised Us Too

Turns out, the journey to healing starts with knowing whose child you are.

Hey there SCC Family !

Welcome to The Bridge Weekly Vol 2. Issue 25! We weren’t expecting Father’s Day to hit quite like that. On Sunday, Henk shared his story with honesty and heart—and somehow managed to talk about shame, healing, and spiritual authority without losing us. Who knew a message about fatherhood could leave us thinking, smiling, and maybe tearing up a little too?

Missed Sunday? You can catch Sunday’s message in podcast form—available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Just search Summerside Community Church and listen anytime. You can also catch the full message anytime on our website’s sermon hub.

Henk’s message struck a chord—and then the podcast took it further. From stories about learning to drive to honest conversation about shame, healing, and horse-loving dads, this week’s Between the Shores is worth a listen. And if you’re short on time, the blog packs a lot into a short read. Both are full of heart and truth—great companions for your next walk, coffee break, or quiet moment.

Natasha is in the office Monday to Thursday! Just a heads up that the office will be closed on Fridays throughout the summer. If you need anything, feel free to reply to this email—we’ll get back to you next week.

This Sunday, Joel is launching a new teaching series: We Believe – A Journey Through the Nicene Creed. Over the coming weeks, we’ll explore the core truths of our faith—who God is, what we believe, and why it matters. Let’s walk this meaningful journey together, anchored in hope and rooted in truth.

June is Missions Giving Month—and we’re excited to support Isaac Gillis and Jazmyn Gallant as they prepare to serve with YWAM this fall. 10% of all General Fund giving in June will go toward helping them get there and help launch a brand-new YWAM base—something Chris and Moira Cairns are actively involved in—expanding the ministry’s reach and impact. So far, $1,289 has been raised!

Summer is a chance to grow—and not just for the garden. At SCC, we’re helping a young leader grow in faith and ministry through a summer internship. Our goal is $4,000, and we’re already over halfway there with $2,285 raised! If you’d like to contribute, you can give by cash, cheque, eTransfer (note “summer student”), or through Nucleus.

Want to pledge instead? Just reply to this email or click the button below. Thanks for helping us pour into what’s next.

In Mark 3:4, Jesus reframes Sabbath with a striking question: “Is it lawful to do good or to do evil on the Sabbath, to save life or to kill?” What if rest isn’t just about stopping, but about choosing what gives life? As you move through the week, ask: Is this life-giving or life-draining? The answer might shape more than your schedule—it might shape your soul.

Healing from trauma isn’t a quick fix—but you don’t have to walk the road alone. This fall, join us at Centre 150 for a two-day conference designed to offer practical tools, spiritual encouragement, and space to breathe. With speakers from across Atlantic Canada, it’s a chance to be supported, equipped, and reminded that healing is possible.

🗓 October 3-5 | 📍Centre 150

Vicky Wydysh brings creativity and heart to our worship team, adding layers of beauty through violin, tin whistle, and vocals. You’ll also find her painting during some of our services—offering a visual expression of worship that draws us deeper into what God is doing. We’re so thankful for the way she helps create space for both wonder and reflection.

Healing rarely happens in isolation. Sometimes the next step is simply showing up, offering what you have, and letting God meet you there. Want to take that step? Join a team →

DON’T MISS WHAT’S NEXT- From weekly rhythms to one-time events, there’s a lot happening in our church family—and we’d love for you to be part of it. Head to our website for the latest updates, opportunities to serve, and ways to grow in community.

Take This With You:
You don’t have to carry the weight alone. Your identity isn’t earned—it’s received. Wherever the weekend takes you, remember: you’ve got a Father who sees, knows, and loves you. Let that be your starting place.

Thanks for hanging out in your inbox with us. Let’s keep following Jesus—and see where the week takes us. See you Sunday!

P.S. You don’t have to have all the answers to take the next step. Healing starts when we let Jesus into the places we’ve hidden. He’s not in a hurry—and He’s not afraid of your story.
