Time to Take Out the Trash
Paul calls it garbage. So why do we keep holding on?

Hey there SCC Family !
The Bridge Weekly Vol 2. Issue 19
Let’s be honest—there’s nothing quite as satisfying as garbage day. Things that once felt useful, necessary, even valuable… finally out of the way. Tracy’s message this past Sunday, It’s Garbage Day!, was a bold invitation to take a closer look at what we’ve been holding onto for worth—success, status, beauty, reputation—and ask: is this getting in the way of knowing Jesus?
Drawing from Philippians 3:1–11 and the story of Madame Jeanne Guyon, we were reminded that spiritual growth isn’t about striving, but surrender. When the shaking comes, it exposes what we’ve leaned on for security—but it also makes space for something deeper. As Tracy said, the best gift we can give the world is a life rooted in Jesus: secure, surrendered, and steadily growing.

If listening’s more your thing, the latest Between the Shores podcast dives deeper into what it means to lay down identity props and embrace a life rooted in Jesus.

This Sunday, we’re pausing our Jesus-Shaped Life series for a special message on Sabbath and Sabbatical. Tracy, Joel, and founding pastor Andrew Bryce will be sharing together, inviting the wider church into a posture of prayer and preparation as Tracy steps into her sabbatical.
It’s a timely reminder that rest isn’t a break from spiritual life—it’s part of it. Let’s gather with open hearts and a willingness to hear what God might be saying to all of us in this season.

Join us on Saturday evenings starting May 17 from 6:30–7:30 PM at Centre 150 as we set aside time to pray, listen, and seek God together. There’s no agenda—just space to be still and see what the Spirit might do. Everyone is welcome.

This Sunday will be Tracy’s final one with us before stepping into her three-month sabbatical. Every seven years, we set aside this time for our senior leader to step back—not because of burnout, but to rest, reconnect, and be refreshed in God’s presence.
The sabbatical begins with a month of vacation, followed by two months of focused prayer, study, and time with Jesus. It’s a rhythm we value deeply—because rest isn’t just good for individuals, it’s good for the church.
As Tracy prepares to unplug from day-to-day leadership, we’re invited to lean in together. Let’s pray for her during this time of renewal—and trust that God will meet all of us as we make space to follow His lead.

Thank you for your generousity

We realize it may rain, so we’ve also planned some indoor tasks that Colby could use extra hands with to help support the facility.
Flowerbeds will wait for warmer weather—we’ll tackle those on May 28 from 9:00–12:00.

Mia Bernard brings more than just music to our Sundays—she brings a deep love for Jesus and a gentle joy that lifts the room. As part of our New Wine Worship team, her heart for worship helps create the kind of space where people can truly encounter God. We’re thankful for her voice, her presence, and the quiet strength she brings to our team.

Some things prop us up. Others help us grow. The hard part is telling the difference. Tracy reminded us this week that even good things—like beauty, success, or hard work—can quietly become identity props. But when we lay them down, something deeper is built: a life rooted in Jesus. Like Madame Guyon, we learn to say, “Take what needs to go, Lord. I want to know You more.” That’s the invitation—this week and every week.
Thanks for spending part of your week with us. We’re better together—and we’ll see you Sunday!

P.S. The Holy Spirit doesn’t just reveal what needs to go—He stays close as we let it go. Trust that what He removes, He replaces with something better: freedom, clarity, and deeper life in Jesus.
