Trusting God in Reflection

The Bridge Weekly Vol. 2, Issue 1

Hey SCC Family!

Welcome to The Bridge Weekly Vol. 2, Issue 1 and Happy New Year! It’s the first Thursday of 2025, and we’re excited to kick off a fresh chapter with all of you. With New Year’s Day just behind us, we hope you had a chance to celebrate, rest, and reflect on the year gone by. As we step into this new season, we’re taking a moment to pause and consider how God moved in 2024—where did you notice His presence? Maybe it was in quiet moments of peace, in a challenge that stretched you, or in an unexpected blessing that reminded you of His care. Reflection helps us see His faithfulness and gain insight into how He’s shaping us, even through life’s ordinary or difficult moments.

Looking ahead, what rhythm will you create for 2025? Whether it’s prioritizing time in prayer, diving into scripture, or joining a group for encouragement and accountability, the practices you put in place now can set the tone for the year to come. It’s not about getting it all perfect; it’s about intentionally anchoring your heart in His presence and trusting Him in each step.

To help foster this intentionality, Tracy’s latest Listening & Responding episode explored the importance of finding rhythms that keep us connected to Jesus. The focus isn’t on the rhythm itself but on how it creates space to encounter Him in our daily lives. Tracy shared practical insights on maintaining these rhythms when life feels chaotic and invites us to consider how even small steps can deepen our relationship with God. Watch the episode here and start 2025 with purpose, allowing God’s presence to shape your year.

This past Sunday, the SCC Pastoral Team shared their reflections on the past year, offering thoughtful insights to inspire your own moments of reflection. If you were to sum up last year in 1-2 sentences, what would you say?

Joel described 2024 as a year of Renewal, Reinstatement, Refresh, and Reset, marked by obedience and relational connections that nudged him forward in trust and purpose.

Colby emphasized The Centrality of Jesus, reflecting on how Colossians 1:17—“He is before all things, and in Him, all things hold together”—reminded him that Christ is the foundation through every challenge, victory, and waiting season.

Heather highlighted the distinction between Faith and Trust, stating that while faith is believing, trust is an active, willful choice rooted in faith. Trusting God’s voice and timing always leads to the right path, proving He is trustworthy.

Tracy marvelled at God’s Goodness and Purpose, noting how He doesn’t waste any part of her journey, using it to reveal His character and bring hope to a world in pain. She resonated deeply with Rabbi Abraham Heschel’s words: “Our goal should be to live in radical amazement…to be spiritual is to be amazed.”

As you reflect on 2024, consider what themes, lessons, or truths stand out in your own life. Let’s take this opportunity to honour God’s faithfulness and prepare our hearts for all He has in store for 2025.

Thank you to everyone who contributed so generously in response to our year-end giving email. Your support and faithfulness have been an incredible blessing as we close 2024 and step into 2025 with hope and anticipation for what God will do. Every gift, large or small, has played a vital role in continuing the work He has called us to as a church. We are so grateful for your partnership and trust in His provision!

Fallen off the wagon with your Bible reading? You’re not alone, and here’s the good news—you probably read more of the Bible than before, and that’s something to celebrate! The start of a new year is the perfect time to jump back in. Whether it’s picking up where you left off or starting fresh, this is your opportunity to reconnect with God’s Word. Let’s dive back in together and keep growing!

Connect Groups are back starting January 5th! While most groups will resume as usual, please note that Catherine and Greg Garant’s groups—Wednesday’s Women’s Connect Group and Thursday’s HIS Way Connect Group—will be on hiatus until they return in March. We’re excited to gather again, reconnect, and grow together in the new year! Enjoy this time with family and friends, and we’ll see you soon!

As we step into this weekend, let’s focus on building rhythms that keep us anchored in Jesus. Remember, it’s not the rhythm itself we’re seeking—it’s Him. Rhythms are simply tools to help us create space to abide in His presence, to draw near, and to hear His voice. Whether your rhythm involves prayer, scripture, or moments of stillness, know that it’s okay to falter. Don’t carry shame if you fall off track; just come back to Him. Jesus delights in being with you. Let’s commit together to finding those spaces in our daily lives where He can meet us, refresh us, and shape us.

Thanks for joining us for this issue of The Bridge Weekly! It really does take hours to put these emails together, and it warms our hearts knowing you’re following along. We can’t wait to connect again next week. Until then, may His peace steady your heart, His love strengthen you, and His joy overflow in every part of your life. Have a wonderful weekend!

P.S. As you take time to reflect, let Psalm 139:23-24 guide your heart: “Search me, God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts. See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Invite God into your reflection and trust Him to lead you into His everlasting ways.
