Use What You’ve Been Given
You’ve been handed the keys. What are you unlocking?

Hey there SCC Family !
Welcome to The Bridge Weekly Vol 2. Issue 32!
Some keys open doors. Others open lives to God’s purposes.
In Keys of the Kingdom, Part 2, Henk continued exploring what it means to walk in the authority Jesus has given us—not with control, but with courage, clarity, and trust. It’s not about striving, but surrender. Not about having the answers, but seeing Jesus clearly. When we stop asking, “Who am I?” and start asking, “Who are You, Lord?”—everything shifts.
This week’s blog isn’t just a recap—it’s a deep dive into the challenge Henk gave us: to stop living from a place of self-doubt and start living from the authority Jesus has already given. You’ll find key takeaways on identity, courage, and surrender—plus a reminder that our authority doesn’t come from titles or effort, but from knowing the King. And if you’d rather hear the heart behind the message in conversation, tune in to this week’s Between the Shores podcast. Joel and Henk unpack the message, share some behind-the-scenes insight, and explore what it means to walk in Kingdom authority without falling into striving, shame, or spiritual burnout.

Need to get in touch or drop by? Natasha is in the office Monday through Thursday. As part of our summer rhythm, the office remains closed on Friday mornings—thanks for planning ahead!

Thank you for continuing to give with purpose and prayer.
Your generosity fuels more than programs—it creates space for lives to be shaped by Jesus. Here’s how July wrapped up! If you’d like to take a next step in giving, click here to learn how.

This coming Sunday, we’ll hear from founding pastor Andrew Bryce with a message titled The Giving Tree. Drawing from the image of a tree that gives again and again, Andrew will lead us into a conversation about rest, surrender, and what it means to live from a posture of open-handed trust. In a world that pushes us to strive, this message is an invitation to slow down, let go, and remember where our strength really comes from.

For students aged 12–18, the Elev8 Summer Campout is just around the corner—and it’s going to be a weekend to remember. We’re heading to New Glasgow with our friends from Fusion Youth for three days of games, worship, laughter, bonfires, and moments where God meets us in the most unexpected ways. 📍 New Glasgow, NS | 🗓 August 29–31 | ![]() |
The theme this year is Here I Am, Send Me—a call to be present, available, and willing to say yes to whatever God has in store. The cost is $70, and registration closes August 20, so don’t wait to sign up.

This week was all about tech—recording weekly videos, troubleshooting audio, and trying to remember our lines without too many takes. Somewhere in the middle of it all, Joel gave us a ten-minute “spiritual nap,” which quickly became a shared highlight. (Apparently, naps can be ministry too.)
Highs, Lows, and What We’re Learning
One of the harder moments this week was trying to stay focused with so much on our minds—and when it came time to record the videos, even remembering what we wanted to say felt like a challenge. But we’re learning that growth doesn’t just come from getting it all right. It comes from showing up, trying again, and keeping our hearts open in the process.
We’re also learning some deeper things. Like how much we need Jesus every single day—and how declaring our identity as sons and daughters of God isn’t just a nice idea, it’s necessary. Preaching isn’t easy, and getting into the mindset to do it well is stretching us. But this internship is showing us things we didn’t expect—about ourselves, our calling, and what it might look like to follow Jesus wherever He leads.

There’s something powerful about witnessing people publicly say yes to Jesus. On Sunday, we celebrated with Crystal Belanger, Noelle Caron, Linda Derasp, Maddie MacLellan, Mikayla Adams and Nathan Adams as they took that step of faith through baptism. Each story is different, but the heart is the same: Jesus is alive, and He’s still changing lives.

The date may have changed, but the plan is still the same: food, friendship, and unhurried time together after church. Mark your calendar for Sunday, August 24 and come hungry—we’ll have the grill going, good conversations flowing, and space to just be together.
You can sign up in the way that works best for you: fill out the form in this week’s bulletin and drop it in the basket at the Hub, or use the online form linked below. Let us know what you’re bringing—or just let us know you’re coming. There’s a spot for you at the table.

Good food. Real talk. A table where everyone belongs.
Join us Friday, August 9 for French Toast Casserole and session 3 of our series How To Be Unsuccessful. It’s been honest, challenging, and surprisingly fun. Whether you’ve been coming every week or haven’t made it out yet, this is a great time to jump in.

We often think of rest as something we have to earn—something we get to enjoy after we’ve done enough. But Jesus flips that script. Rest is the starting place, not the reward. It’s where we remember that we’re loved, not just useful. As the pace of life presses in, maybe that’s your reminder for today: stop striving. Start abiding.

Mikayla Adams may be one of our younger volunteers, but she serves with the heart of someone deeply rooted in love. Each week, she brings kindness, energy, and a genuine joy that makes a difference in kids ministry. The little ones light up when she walks in—and so do we. We’re grateful for the way she shows up, serves with a smile, and reflects Jesus in the most down-to-earth way.
Looking to get more involved? Joining a team is a great way to build community, discover your strengths, and help others experience Jesus along the way. From making coffee to running slides, greeting at the door to helping with kids—there’s a place for you. Let’s find it together.
There’s always something unfolding in the life of our church—and we don’t want you to miss it. Take a few minutes to visit the website for upcoming events, sign-ups, and ways to get involved. It’s the easiest way to stay in step with everything happening at SCC.
One More Thought for the Road
Jesus didn’t hand out keys so we could keep them tucked away. He gave them so we could step out, speak up, and unlock what’s been shut for far too long. This week, keep your eyes open for the small places where Heaven wants to break through—through your kindness, your courage, your simple obedience. The Kingdom moves when we do.
See You Sunday- We love doing life and faith with you. Let’s keep showing up, lifting Jesus high, and living it out together.

P.S. Your calling doesn’t have to be loud to be real. Sometimes the most powerful thing you can do is show up, use what’s in your hand, and keep your heart open to Jesus.
