When a Tree Tells the Truth

The tree gives. Jesus gave more. Rest in that.

Hey there SCC Family !

Welcome to The Bridge Weekly Vol 2. Issue 33!
Apparently, children’s books know things we forget. This week, Andrew used The Giving Tree to point us back to the way of Jesus—who doesn’t hold back, doesn’t demand anything in return, and still invites us to come and rest. The invitation isn’t to hustle harder, but to let ourselves be held by the One who gave everything so we could live rooted and free.

If Sunday stirred something in you—or if you missed it entirely—the blog is a great way to stay connected to what God is saying to our community. This week’s post draws from The Giving Tree and the scriptures Andrew shared to remind us that rest, surrender, and rootedness aren’t just nice ideas—they’re how we become people who carry peace in a restless world.

There was no Between the Shores episode this week as Joel took a few days off, but you can still catch up on past conversations through the podcast playlist

Listen on the Go! You can catch Sunday’s message in podcast form—available on Apple Podcasts and Spotify. Just search Summerside Community Church and listen anytime. You can also watch the full message anytime on our website’s sermon hub.

Natasha’s in the office Monday to Thursday, and Friday mornings are our quiet zone for the summer. It’s a small way we practice what we preach—slowing down, making space, and trusting that Jesus is still at work (even when the office isn’t).

This Sunday, Joel is picking up where we left off—talking about Jesus’ ascension and what it means for us here and now. Spoiler alert: it’s not about Jesus floating away into the clouds. It’s about the kind of authority that changes everything. Think less escape plan, more world-changing mission. Come ready to be reminded that Jesus is still leading, still speaking, and still sending us out with purpose.

Thank you for continuing to give with purpose and prayer.

Your generosity fuels more than programs—it creates space for lives to be shaped by Jesus. Here’s how July wrapped up! If you’d like to take a next step in giving, click here to learn how.

Ages 12–18, this one’s for you. We’re teaming up with Fusion Youth for a weekend that’s way more than just campfires and late-night snacks (though there will be those too). We’ll be talking about what it means to be sent—just like Jesus promised His Spirit would empower us to go, live, and speak with purpose.

📍 New Glasgow, NS | 🗓 August 29–31

When the heat hits, you hydrate and hustle—and our interns did plenty of both. Between watering plants and learning the ins and outs of tech, Gracie and Nathan also soaked in some good old-fashioned soul work.

Highs, Lows, and What We’re Learning

One highlight this week was sensing God speak through Sunday’s message—it helped us reflect on things like self-control, confidence, and maturity. Another big moment came when we stepped up to speak in front of the church. It was nerve-wracking, but it also felt like leaning into what God might be growing in us.

Of course, there were challenges too. Scrambling to find volunteers and pushing through writing assignments stretched us more than expected. But we’re learning that growth doesn’t come from perfection—it comes from presence, from showing up, and from letting God meet us in the middle of it all.

And a surprise win? A ten-minute “quiet break” that turned into a shared moment of peace. Turns out, rest is part of the rhythm. Beneath the tasks, God’s been at work—shaping us, steadying us, and reminding us to trust the process.

We’ve rescheduled, but the invitation still stands! On August 24, right after church, we’re firing up the grill and gathering as a family. Come hungry, bring a dish to share, and stick around for good conversations and easy laughter. It’s a chance to live out what we talk about on Sundays—being present, showing up, and making room at the table.

Bonus: We’ll have printed invites at the Hub this Sunday—grab a few and invite someone to join you!

Jake Ramsay is one of those teens who shows up with a great attitude and a willingness to help—especially in Kids Church. He’s reliable, athletic, and always brings a good sense of humor. The kids love him, and so do the leaders. We’re grateful for the way Jake quietly leads by example and makes a difference just by being himself.

Looking to get more involved? Joining a team is a great way to build community, discover your strengths, and help others experience Jesus along the way. From making coffee to running slides, greeting at the door to helping with kids—there’s a place for you. Let’s find it together.

There’s always something unfolding in the life of our church—and we don’t want you to miss it. Take a few minutes to visit the website for upcoming events, sign-ups, and ways to get involved. It’s the easiest way to stay in step with everything happening at SCC.

Let This Stay With You
A heart at rest with God doesn’t rush to fix, prove, or predict. It listens more, judges less, and stays curious. This kind of rest isn’t passive—it’s the quiet strength that comes from knowing you are deeply loved. As you move through the week, may you carry His peace into every conversation, every decision, and every moment. You don’t have to force anything. Just stay rooted in Him—and let love lead.

See You Sunday- We love doing life and faith with you. Let’s keep showing up, lifting Jesus high, and living it out together.

P.S. Peace often arrives with presence—His, and yours. Slow down when you can. Listen longer. Love first. That’s what resting in God looks like.
